Frances Reimers is a guest on Conversations in Public Relations.

Frances Reimers is the Manager of ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership’s Greater Washington Network. She is responsible for creating quality programming and customer service for ASAE & The Center’s 8,600 members in the DC metro area by conceptualizing and implementing more than 100 idea swaps, forums and networking events each year. Bi-annually she works with the editorial staff to draft an insert to ASAE & The Center’s Associations Now magazine highlighting the Network’s activities. Frances also serves as the staff liaison for the volunteer Membership Action Team and the Content & Facilitation Action Team, helping to create and maintain a strategic plan and organize the group’s efforts. Additionally, she is the staff liaison for ASAE & The Center’s Young Professional Section Council. Finally, she also sits on ASAE & The Center’s staff advocacy team, which develops the organization’s policies.

Frances was previously employed as the Communications Specialist for the U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation. Her responsibilities included copywriting and producing 11 quarterly newsletters, coordinating the annual report, vendor liaison, drafting press releases, and managing media events.

Frances currently sits on the Young Nonprofit Network (YNPNdc) Board of Directors and is its Communications Chair. She also volunteers her time to the PRSA National Chapter as an event planner.

Frances received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, she currently resides in Washington, DC.

Debbie Friez is Vice President, Major Accounts for BurrellesLuce, the largest media monitoring company in the world. She handles public relations and manages the relationships with the company’s largest accounts. Immediately prior to becoming a Vice President, Friez was an account executive in Washington, DC, and before that held a similar position with the company’s Minnesota Clipping Service.

Previously, Friez was a senior account director for West Glen Communications, a broadcast PR services company. While at West Glen Communications, she was a frequent contributor to the DC Communicator newsletter. She is currently on the advisory board for the Capitol Communicator.

Debbie is the Vice President of Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) and serves as the co-chair for the Professional Development Committee of the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.  She is also active with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and the Association of Women in Communications.  She is currently on the board of AWC-DC.  She has been WWPR Marketing and Communications Co-Chair for the past 2 ½ years.

Friez graduated cum laude from the University of North Dakota with a major in Journalism with an emphasis in broadcasting and a major in political science. While at UND, she interned at KTHI-TV, an NBC affiliate, KFJM, a NPR affiliate, in addition to producing, reporting and writing for “Studio 1”, an award winning student produced television talk show.

Lauren Lawson is the President of Washington Women in Public Relations, a professional membership organization.

With more than 10 years of experience as a media and communications strategist, Lauren Lawson is the Media Relations Manager for Goodwill Industries International, serving as the organization’s spokesperson. Prior to joining Goodwill in 2007, Lauren ran her own consulting firm where she assisted with the media efforts for Servathon 2007, sponsored by Greater DC Cares and AOL, one of the largest single days of volunteering in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Lauren’s prior experience includes serving as Media Relations Manager for both the Children’s Defense Fund and Communications Marketing Group (CMG) and Publicity Manager for LifeLine Press and Regnery Publishing, both divisions of Eagle Publishing, where she handled the publicity for their current events, health and life-style books.

She began her career in New York City, where she handled publicity campaigns for book publishers including Hachette Book Group (formerly Time Warner Book Group), Penguin Putnam, and Simon & Schuster.

A media relations expert, Lauren has a number of successful broadcast placements to her credit, including CNN’s American Morning, The Early Show, Today, Fox & Friends, FOX Business, The Rachael Ray Show, and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. In addition, she has secured feature print stories for clients in the Associated Press, Newsweek, People, O, AARP Magazine, and Reader’s Digest.

In addition to serving as President of WWPR, Lauren belongs to several professional development organizations including the American Marketing Association, the Association for Women in Communications, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the Public Relations Society of America.

She volunteers extensively in the community, including chairing the Doorways for Women and Families committee for the Junior League of Washington, overseeing the volunteer needs for the only shelter for women and families in Arlington, VA. Lauren also serves on the communications committee for the Young NonProfit Professionals Network of D.C.

Lauren has served on the board of WWPR for six years in various capacities, including Chair of the Pro Bono Committee and, most recently, as Vice President. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., and is a graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute.
