Lauren Lawson is the President of Washington Women in Public Relations, a professional membership organization.
With more than 10 years of experience as a media and communications strategist, Lauren Lawson is the Media Relations Manager for Goodwill Industries International, serving as the organization’s spokesperson. Prior to joining Goodwill in 2007, Lauren ran her own consulting firm where she assisted with the media efforts for Servathon 2007, sponsored by Greater DC Cares and AOL, one of the largest single days of volunteering in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Lauren’s prior experience includes serving as Media Relations Manager for both the Children’s Defense Fund and Communications Marketing Group (CMG) and Publicity Manager for LifeLine Press and Regnery Publishing, both divisions of Eagle Publishing, where she handled the publicity for their current events, health and life-style books.
She began her career in New York City, where she handled publicity campaigns for book publishers including Hachette Book Group (formerly Time Warner Book Group), Penguin Putnam, and Simon & Schuster.
A media relations expert, Lauren has a number of successful broadcast placements to her credit, including CNN’s American Morning, The Early Show, Today, Fox & Friends, FOX Business, The Rachael Ray Show, and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. In addition, she has secured feature print stories for clients in the Associated Press, Newsweek, People, O, AARP Magazine, and Reader’s Digest.
In addition to serving as President of WWPR, Lauren belongs to several professional development organizations including the American Marketing Association, the Association for Women in Communications, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the Public Relations Society of America.
She volunteers extensively in the community, including chairing the Doorways for Women and Families committee for the Junior League of Washington, overseeing the volunteer needs for the only shelter for women and families in Arlington, VA. Lauren also serves on the communications committee for the Young NonProfit Professionals Network of D.C.
Lauren has served on the board of WWPR for six years in various capacities, including Chair of the Pro Bono Committee and, most recently, as Vice President. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., and is a graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute.
